Which category is right for you?  Choose the category that gives you the best chance of success.  The criteria will show you what the judges are looking for in each category or you can use this list as a general guide.

 

Best Sporting Event

Who can enter:

  1. Entries may be submitted by either an Event Owner or an Event Manager with permission from the Event Owner
  2. The event must have taken place in Australia between July 1, 2009 and June 30, 2010

Suggested for:

    • Major sporting events
    • Regional sporting events

Best Tourism Event

Recognising a significant contribution by an event to the economic development of a city or region through the attraction of visitors.

Who can enter:

  1. Entries may be submitted by either an Event Owner or an Event Manager with permission from the Event Owner
  2. The event must have taken place in Australia between July 1, 2009 and June 30, 2010

Suggested for:

    • Events with a specific tourism focus
    • Other events that can show an impact on the local economy

Best Charity or Cause-Related Event

Who can enter:

  1. Entries may be submitted by either an Event Owner or an Event Manager with permission from the Event Owner
  2. The event must have taken place in Australia between July 1, 2009 and June 30, 2010

Suggested for:

    • Fundraising events
    • Events that raise the profile of a charity or cause
    • Events that encourage donations other than cash

CIM Best Meeting or Conference

Who can enter:

  1. Entries may be submitted by either an Event Owner or an Event Manager with permission from the Event Owner
  2. The event must have taken place in Australia between July 1, 2009 and June 30, 2010

Suggested for:

    • Large or small conferences
    • Meetings that provide an outstanding experience for attendees

Best Cultural or Arts Event

Who can enter:

  1. Entries may be submitted by either an Event Owner or an Event Manager with permission from the Event Owner
  2. The event must have taken place in Australia between July 1, 2009 and June 30, 2010

Suggested for:

    • Major and regional arts festivals
    • Music festivals
    • Events with a cultural focus

Best Corporate Event

Who can enter:

  1. Entries may be submitted by either an Event Owner or an Event Manager with permission from the Event Owner
  2. The event must have taken place in Australia between July 1, 2009 and June 30, 2010

Suggested for:

    • Product Launches
    • Incentives
    • Corporate Gala Dinner
    • Corporate Award presentations
    • Any event that achieves a corporate or business aim

Best Exhibition

Who can enter:

  1. Entries may be submitted by either an Event Owner or an Event Manager with permission from the Event Owner
  2. The event must have taken place in Australia between July 1, 2009 and June 30, 2010

Suggested for:

    • Public exhibitions
    • Trade exhibitions
    • Trade Shows that may be attached to another event

Best Community Event

Who can enter:

  1. Entries may be submitted by either an Event Owner or an Event Manager with permission from the Event Owner
  2. The event must have taken place in Australia between July 1, 2009 and June 30, 2010

Suggested for:

    • Events that focus on community building and community engagement
    • Regional city or town festivals
    • "Main street" events

Suggested for:

    • Events that have not been staged before
    • Events that have a degree of novelty or innovation
    • Can be any type of event including sporting, festival, cultural, exhibition, etc

    • Weddings

    • Bar Mitzvahs, Bat Mitzvahs
    • Other private celebrations or occasions

Best Achievement in Technical Production

Who can enter:

  1. Entries may be submitted by the Event Owner or by a product or service provider with permission from the Event Owner and/or the Event Manager
  2. The event at which the achievement was performed must have taken place in Australia between July 1, 2009 and June 30, 2010

    • PA suppliers
    • Lighting suppliers
    • LED or Projection screen suppliers
    • Pyrotechnic suppliers

    • Event designers
    • Temporary overlay design

    • Corporate Entertainers
    • Outdoor or festival entertainers
    • Opening ceremony producers

    • Software designed for an event
    • Innovative use of internet or electronic media
    • Innovative hardware design or deployment

Who can enter:

  1. Entries may be submitted by the Event Owner or by a product or service provider with permission from the Event Owner and/or the Event Manager
  2. The event at which the achievement was performed must have taken place in Australia between July 1, 2009 and June 30, 2010

    • Onsite caterers
    • Venue caterers
    • Event Managers or Caterers who have enhanced an event through innovative catering

Spice Magazine Best Venue

Who can enter:

  1. Entries may be submitted by either a Venue Owner or a Venue Manager with permission from the Venue Owner
  2. The venue must be located in Australia
  3. The Award relates to services provided at events that took place between July 1, 2009 and June 30, 2010

Suggested for:

    • Conference centre (large and small)
    • Exhibition centre
    • Function Centre
    • Sports Stadium

Best Product or Service

Who can enter:

  1. Entries may be submitted by the Event Owner or by a product or service provider with permission from the Event Owner and/or the Event Manager
  2. The event at which the achievement was performed must have taken place in Australia between July 1, 2009 and June 30, 2010

    • External supplier who has developed a product or service for an event
    • Event that has created a product or service internally
    • External supplier with a product or service that has the potential to enhance events

Best Education or Training Program

Who can enter:

  1. Providers of event management education or training for  work carried out between July 1, 2009 and June 30, 2010
  2. If the entry concerns a specific event(s) then entries may be submitted by the Event Owner or by an education or training provider with permission from the Event Owner and/or the Event Manager

Suggested for:

    • Universities
    • TAFE's
    • Private institutions
    • Organisations delivering industry based training

Best Export

Who can enter:

  1. The Award is open to Australian Citizens or businesses registered in Australia for activities between July 1, 2009 and June 30, 2010

    • Event managers operating overseas
    • Organisations promoting Australia's event capabilities

Best Marketing Campaign

Who can enter:

  1. Entries may be submitted by the Event Owner or by a product or service provider with permission from the Event Owner and/or the Event Manager
  2. The event for which the campaign was undertaken must have taken place in Australia between July 1, 2009 and June 30, 2010

Suggested for:

    • Marketing or PR firms that have provided services for an event
    • Events that have undertaken marketing campaigns internally

Best Partnership by a Business or Media Outlet

Who can enter:

  1. Entries may be submitted by the Event Owner or by a product or service provider with permission from the Event Owner and/or the Event Manager
  2. The event in question must have taken place in Australia between July 1, 2009 and June 30, 2010

Suggested for:

    • Event Managers
    • Organisations that have sponsored an event
    • Sponsorship managers

Young Achiever of the Year

This Award recognises the contribution by a person under 30 to advancing the Australian Event Industry.  Nominees must be under 30 years of age at the conclusion of the nomination period.

Who can enter:

  1. Entries may be submitted by anybody on behalf of an Australian Citizen who has not celebrated their 30th birthday before June 30 2010
  2. The nominated person must give their consent to the nomination
  3. The Award will relate to work carried out between July 1 2009 and June 30 2010

Suggested for:

    • People under 30 with a high level of achievement
    • Employers
    • Clients or suppliers wishing to nominate a person under 30

Best Achievement in Sustainability

Who can enter:

  1. Entries may be submitted by the Event Owner or by a product or service provider with permission from the Event Owner and/or the Event Manager
  2. The event at which the achievement was performed must have taken place in Australia between July 1, 2009 and June 30, 2010

    • Event managers
    • Event owners
    • Suppliers making a contribution to sustainability at an event

Lifetime Achievement Award

Who can enter:

  1. Entries may be submitted by anybody on behalf of an Australian Citizen who has made an outstanding contribution to the Australian Events Industry over an extended period of time.

Suggested for:

    • Event managers
    • Associations
    • Clients or suppliers wishing to nominate a remarkable person
    • Nominee could be an event manager, a supplier, a volunteer, an educator, etc

Event Manager of the Year

Who can enter:

  1. Entries may be submitted by anybody on behalf of an Australian Citizen or business registered in Australia in relation to a nominated event or events that took place in Australia between July 1, 2009 and June 30, 2010

Suggested for:

    • Individual event managers
    • Event management businesses or companies
