Awarded to a sporting event that delivers an outstanding experience for competitors, athletes, officials and spectators.

Who can enter:

  1. Entries may be submitted by either an Event Owner or an Event Manager with permission from the Event Owner
  2. The event must have taken place in Australia between July 1, 2009 and June 30, 2010

Criteria:

  • The degree to which the event delivered an outstanding experience for spectators 15%
  • The degree to which the event delivered an outstanding experience for competitors, athletes and officials  15%
  • The degree to which the event accurately identified other customer/stakeholder groups and met their needs 10%
  • Overall quality of the event delivered 10%
  • The degree to which the event has utilised "best practice" techniques in all aspects of planning, preparation, delivery and evaluation 10%
  • Effective event communication and promotion 10%
  • The degree to which the event engaged in environmentally sustainable practices and reflects corporate social responsibility 10%
  • The degree to which the event has achieved innovation in relation to techniques, knowledge or practices 10%
  • Longer term benefit to the industry, sector or the community in general 10%

Best Tourism Event

Recognising a significant contribution by an event to the economic development of a city or region through the attraction of visitors.

Who can enter:

  1. Entries may be submitted by either an Event Owner or an Event Manager with permission from the Event Owner
  2. The event must have taken place in Australia between July 1, 2009 and June 30, 2010

 

Criteria:

  • Relative impact on the local economy and employment through spend by visitors, event organiser, attendees, suppliers and ancillary events 20%
  • Fit with and advance the destination image 10%
  • The degree to which the event accurately identified other customer/stakeholder groups and met their needs 10%
  • Overall quality of the event delivered 10%
  • The degree to which the event has utilised "best practice" techniques in all aspects of planning, preparation, delivery and evaluation 10%
  • Effective event communication and promotion 10%
  • The degree to which the event engaged in environmentally sustainable practices and reflects corporate social responsibility 10%
  • The degree to which the event has achieved innovation in relation to techniques, knowledge or practices  10%
  • Longer term benefit to the industry, sector or the community in general 10%

Best Charity or Cause-Related Event

Awarded to an event that best raises awareness and promotes engagement in a charity or cause.

Who can enter:

  1. Entries may be submitted by either an Event Owner or an Event Manager with permission from the Event Owner
  2. The event must have taken place in Australia between July 1, 2009 and June 30, 2010

Criteria:

  • Awareness of the charity or cause attributable to the event 15%
  • Engagement with the charity or cause (for example fundraising, volunteer commitment, etc) 15%
  • The degree to which the event accurately identified other customer/stakeholder groups and met their needs 10%
  • Overall quality of the event delivered 10%
  • The degree to which the event has utilised "best practice" techniques in all aspects of planning, preparation, delivery and evaluation 10%
  • Effective event communication and promotion 10%
  • The degree to which the event engaged in environmentally sustainable practices and reflects corporate social responsibility  10%
  • The degree to which the event has achieved innovation in relation to techniques, knowledge or practices  10%
  • Longer term benefit to the industry, sector or the community in general 10%

CIM Best Meeting or Conference

Recognising a meeting or conference that best advances the aims of the organising body and provides a rewarding experience for attendees.

Who can enter:

  1. Entries may be submitted by either an Event Owner or an Event Manager with permission from the Event Owner
  2. The event must have taken place in Australia between July 1, 2009 and June 30, 2010

Criteria:

  • The degree to which the meeting or conference delivered an outstanding experience for attendees (for example through the quality of presentations, information provided, level of integration, etc) 15%
  • The degree to which the meeting or conference achieved and advanced the aims of the organising body (for example financial return, service to members, advancing the industry, etc) 15%
  • The degree to which the event accurately identified other customer/stakeholder groups and met their needs 10%
  • Overall quality of the event delivered 10%
  • The degree to which the event has utilised "best practice" techniques in all aspects of planning, preparation, delivery and evaluation 10%
  • Effective event communication and promotion 10%
  • The degree to which the event engaged in environmentally sustainable practices and reflects corporate social responsibility 10%
  • The degree to which the event has achieved innovation in relation to techniques, knowledge or practices 10%
  • Longer term benefit to the industry, sector or the community in general 10%

Best Cultural or Arts Event

Recognising a special event, festival or cultural exhibition that demonstrates artistic excellence, innovation and/or support of arts and culture.

Who can enter:

  1. Entries may be submitted by either an Event Owner or an Event Manager with permission from the Event Owner
  2. The event must have taken place in Australia between July 1, 2009 and June 30, 2010

Criteria:

  • Quality of the concept and program 20%
  • Contribution by the event to the artform 10%
  • The degree to which the event accurately identified other customer/stakeholder groups and met their needs 10%
  • Overall quality of the event delivered 10%
  • The degree to which the event has utilised "best practice" techniques in all aspects of planning, preparation, delivery and evaluation 10%
  • Effective event communication and promotion 10%
  • The degree to which the event engaged in environmentally sustainable practices and reflects corporate social responsibility 10%
  • The degree to which the event has achieved innovation in relation to techniques, knowledge or practices 10%
  • Longer term benefit to the industry, sector or the community in general 10%

Best Corporate Event

Awarded to an event that best achieves the business outcomes and reflects the culture and identity of the host organisation or brand.

Who can enter:

  1. Entries may be submitted by either an Event Owner or an Event Manager with permission from the Event Owner
  2. The event must have taken place in Australia between July 1, 2009 and June 30, 2010

Criteria:

  • The degree to which the event achieved the stated business outcomes (for example product launch, brand promotion, building client relationships, staff development, etc) 20%
  • The degree to which the event reflected the culture and identity of the host organisation or brand 10%
  • The degree to which the event accurately identified other customer/stakeholder groups and met their needs 10%
  • Overall quality of the event delivered 10%
  • The degree to which the event has utilised "best practice" techniques in all aspects of planning, preparation, delivery and evaluation 10%
  • Effective event communication and promotion 10%
  • The degree to which the event engaged in environmentally sustainable practices and reflects corporate social responsibility 10%
  • The degree to which the event has achieved innovation in relation to techniques, knowledge or practices 10%
  • Longer term benefit to the industry, sector or the community in general 10%

Best Exhibition

Awarded to a consumer or trade exhibition that provides the best experience and outcomes for exhibitors and attendees.

Who can enter:

  1. Entries may be submitted by either an Event Owner or an Event Manager with permission from the Event Owner
  2. The event must have taken place in Australia between July 1, 2009 and June 30, 2010

Criteria:

  • The degree to which the event delivered outcomes for exhibitors (for example sales, business prospects, future industry growth, etc) 15%
  • The degree to which the event delivered outcomes for attendees (for example product awareness, overall enjoyment of the experience, etc) 15%
  • The degree to which the event accurately identified other customer/stakeholder groups and met their needs 10%
  • Overall quality of the event delivered 10%
  • The degree to which the event has utilised "best practice" techniques in all aspects of planning, preparation, delivery and evaluation 10%
  • Effective event communication and promotion 10%
  • The degree to which the event engaged in environmentally sustainable practices and reflects corporate social responsibility 10%
  • The degree to which the event has achieved innovation in relation to techniques, knowledge or practices 10%

Best Community Event

Recognising the benefits through community building and community engagement achieved by an event.

Who can enter:

  1. Entries may be submitted by either an Event Owner or an Event Manager with permission from the Event Owner
  2. The event must have taken place in Australia between July 1, 2009 and June 30, 2010
  3. Criteria:

    • Extent of community engagement in the event (for example "ownership", attendance, volunteering, etc) 15%
    • Positive social and cultural impact on the local community 15%
    • The degree to which the event accurately identified other customer/stakeholder groups and met their needs 10%
    • Overall quality of the event delivered 10%
    • The degree to which the event has utilised "best practice" techniques in all aspects of planning, preparation, delivery and evaluation 10%
    • Effective event communication and promotion 10%
    • The degree to which the event engaged in environmentally sustainable practices and reflects corporate social responsibility 10%
    • The degree to which the event has achieved innovation in relation to techniques, knowledge or practices 10%
    • Longer term benefit to the industry, sector or the community in general 10%

    Best New Event

    Recognising the innovation associated with the staging of a new event

    Note:

    • A new event is one that displays a degree of novelty or innovation from existing event concepts
    • Applicant must own (not license) the intellectual property of the event

    Who can enter:

    1. Entries may be submitted by either an Event Owner or an Event Manager with permission from the Event Owner
    2. The event must have taken place in Australia between July 1, 2009 and June 30, 2010

    Criteria

    • Degree of novelty or innovation demonstrated in the event concept 20%
    • The degree to which the event accurately identified customer/stakeholder groups and met their needs 15%
    • Overall quality of the event delivered 15%
    • The degree to which the event has utilised "best practice" techniques in all aspects of planning, preparation, delivery and evaluation 10%
    • Effective event communication and promotion 10%
    • The degree to which the event engaged in environmentally sustainable practices and reflects corporate social responsibility 10%
    • The degree to which the event has achieved innovation in relation to techniques, knowledge or practices 10%
    • Longer term benefit to the industry, sector or the community in general 10%

    Best Private Event

    Recognising the role that events play in marking significant private occasions (such as a wedding, birthday, etc.)

    Who can enter:

    1. Entries may be submitted by either an Event Owner or an Event Manager with permission from the Event Owner
    2. The event must have taken place in Australia between July 1, 2009 and June 30, 2010

    Criteria:

    • The degree of creativity displayed in the execution of the event 20%
    • The degree to which the event design or theme added to the success of the event (for example use of printed material, site design, staging, table decorations, etc) 15%
    • The degree to which the event reflected the culture or character of the celebration 15%
    • Overall quality of the event delivered 10%
    • The degree to which the event has utilised "best practice" techniques in all aspects of planning, preparation, delivery and evaluation 10%
    • Effective client communication and management 10%
    • The degree to which the event engaged in environmentally sustainable practices and reflects corporate social responsibility 10%
    • The degree to which the event has achieved innovation in relation to techniques, knowledge or practices 10%

    Best Achievement in Technical Production

    Recognising an outstanding achievement in relation to technical production of an event.

    Who can enter:

    1. Entries may be submitted by the Event Owner or by a product or service provider with permission from the Event Owner and/or the Event Manager
    2. The event at which the achievement was performed must have taken place in Australia between July 1, 2009 and June 30, 2010

    Criteria:

    • Quality of technical production (for example lighting, sound, audio visual, special effects, etc) delivered at the event by the applicant 30%
    • Degree to which the achievement positively impacts the event at which it is performed 25%
    • Degree to which the achievement is innovative 20%
    • Level of difficulty of the achievement given any constraints on the applicant 15%
    • Degree to which the achievement contributes to the industry 10%

    Best Achievement in Design

    Recognising contribution of design or theming to the quality of an event.

    Who can enter:

    1. Entries may be submitted by the Event Owner or by a product or service provider with permission from the Event Owner and/or the Event Manager
    2. The event at which the achievement was performed must have taken place in Australia between July 1, 2009 and June 30, 2010

    Criteria:

    • Degree to which the design transforms the venue or space for the event 30%
    • Degree to which the achievement enhances the quality of the event 25%
    • Degree to which the achievement is innovative or new 20%
    • Level of difficulty of the achievement given any constraints on the applicant 15%
    • Degree to which the achievement contributes to the industry 10%

    Best Achievement in Entertainment

    Awarded to the best example of live entertainment at an event and recognising the role that live entertainment plays in the event experience.

    Who can enter:

    1. Entries may be submitted by the Event Owner or by a product or service provider with permission from the Event Owner and/or the Event Manager
    2. The event at which the achievement was performed must have taken place in Australia between July 1, 2009 and June 30, 2010

    Criteria:

    • Degree to which the achievement enhances the event at which it is performed 30%
    • Degree to which the achievement fits with the event audience 15%
    • Overall quality of entertainment delivered at the event by the applicant 10%
    • Degree to which the achievement is innovative or new 20%
    • Degree to which live entertainment is an important part of the event at which the achievement is performed  15%
    • Degree to which the achievement contributes to the events industry 10%

    Most Innovative Use of Technology

    Recognising an outstanding innovation in the use of technology for an event.

    Note: 
    For this purposes of this category ‘Technology’ includes the use of information technology (IT), online services and electronic media.

    Who can enter:

    1. Entries may be submitted by the Event Owner or by a product or service provider with permission from the Event Owner and/or the Event Manager
    2. The event at which the achievement was performed must have taken place in Australia between July 1, 2009 and June 30, 2010

    Criteria:

    • Degree to which the achievement positively impacts the event at which it is performed 30%
    • Quality of the outcomes delivered at the event by the applicant 20%
    • Degree to which the achievement is innovative 25%
    • Level of difficulty of the achievement given any constraints on the applicant 15%
    • Degree to which the achievement contributes to the industry 10%

    Best Achievement in Catering

    Awarded to the best example of catering at an event and recognising the role that catering plays in the event experience.

    Who can enter:

    1. Entries may be submitted by the Event Owner or by a product or service provider with permission from the Event Owner and/or the Event Manager
    2. The event at which the achievement was performed must have taken place in Australia between July 1, 2009 and June 30, 2010

    Criteria:

    • Degree to which the achievement enhances the event at which it is performed 30%
    • Quality of catering delivered at the event by the applicant 25%
    • Degree to which the achievement is innovative or new 20%
    • Degree to which catering is an important part of the event at which the achievement is performed  15%
    • Degree to which the achievement contributes to the events industry 10%

    Spice Magazine Best Venue

    Awarded to a venue (such as a meeting venue, convention centre, stadium, etc) that best enhances the event experience.

    Who can enter:

    1. Entries may be submitted by either a Venue Owner or a Venue Manager with permission from the Venue Owner
    2. The venue must be located in Australia
    3. The Award relates to services provided at events that took place between July 1, 2009 and June 30, 2010

    Criteria:

    • Quality of the venue experience for customer groups with an emphases on end users (for example attendees, participants, media, etc) 30%
    • The degree to which the venue has utilised "best practice" techniques in management and delivery of services, including accessibility 25%
    • The degree of innovation in enhancing the event experience 20%
    • The degree to which the venue engages in environmentally sustainable practices and reflects corporate social responsibility 15%
    • Providing an example to the wider industry 10%

    Best Product or Service

    Awarded to an outstanding product or service created in-house or externally that is designed for, or likely to be widely used by, the events industry.

    Who can enter:

    1. Entries may be submitted by the Event Owner or by a product or service provider with permission from the Event Owner and/or the Event Manager
    2. The event at which the achievement was performed must have taken place in Australia between July 1, 2009 and June 30, 2010

    Criteria:

    • The degree to which the product or service enhances or has the potential to enhance an event at which it is used 50%
    • The degree to which the product or service is innovative 30%
    • The degree to which the product or service contributes to the events industry 20%

    Entry fee $220 including GST


    Best Education or Training Program

    Awarded to a program making an outstanding contribution to a specific event(s) or to the Australian events industry through education or training.

    Who can enter:

    1. Providers of event management education or training for  work carried out between July 1, 2009 and June 30, 2010
    2. If the entry concerns a specific event(s) then entries may be submitted by the Event Owner or by an education or training provider with permission from the Event Owner and/or the Event Manager

     

    Criteria:

    • Degree to which the program contributes to the success of the event(s) or to the strength of the Australian Events Industry 25%
    • Contribution to the professional development of participants 25%
    • Clear industry links between the education program and the events industry 20%
    • The degree to which the program has put in place strategies such as research or consultation to remain abreast of changes and to develop innovations in practices in the events industry 20%
    • Effective communication in the marketplace with regard to purpose and outcomes of the program 10%

    Best Export

    Awarded to an individual or organisation that makes a notable contribution to the Australian events industry through activity in the global arena. This award is open to applicants that are directly involved in the events overseas or in the promotion of the capabilities of the Australian events industry

    Who can enter:

    1. The Award is open to Australian Citizens or businesses registered in Australia for activities between July 1, 2009 and June 30, 2010

    Criteria:

    • Demonstration of Australian excellence in providing event products and services 40%
    • Innovation in the contribution made to an event or events, or in the promotion of Australian capabilities to such events 30%
    • Positioning Australia for future success in international event markets, through exemplary performance or promotion 30%

    Best Marketing Campaign

    Recognising innovative use of marketing to promote an event.

    Who can enter:

    1. Entries may be submitted by the Event Owner or by a product or service provider with permission from the Event Owner and/or the Event Manager
    2. The event for which the campaign was undertaken must have taken place in Australia between July 1, 2009 and June 30, 2010

    Criteria:

    • Demonstrates sound understanding of the outcomes required for successful marketing of the event 25%
    • The degree of success in implementing outstanding strategies to achieve the marketing outcomes required 25%
    • Sound understanding of key event messages 20%
    • Utilises innovative and appropriate marketing methods to communicate key messages 30%

    Best Partnership by a Business or Media Outlet

    Recognising an innovative contribution by a corporate partner to an event.

    Who can enter:

    1. Entries may be submitted by the Event Owner or by a product or service provider with permission from the Event Owner and/or the Event Manager
    2. The event in question must have taken place in Australia between July 1, 2009 and June 30, 2010

    Criteria:

    • The degree to which the partnership has benefited both parties (including enhancing the event for end users) 50%
    • The degree of innovation in the partnership structure and benefits 30%
    • Providing an example to the wider industry 10%
    • Longer term benefit to the industry, sector or the community in general 10%

    Young Achiever of the Year

    This Award recognises the contribution by a person under 30 to advancing the Australian Event Industry.  Nominees must be under 30 years of age at the conclusion of the nomination period.

    Who can enter:

    1. Entries may be submitted by anybody on behalf of an Australian Citizen who has not celebrated their 30th birthday before June 30 2010
    2. The nominated person must give their consent to the nomination
    3. The Award will relate to work carried out between July 1 2009 and June 30 2010

     

    Criteria:

    • A high level of achievement in the Australian events industry during the year 50%
    • The future potential to contribute to the events industry 20%
    • Suitability as an ambassador for the industry as an example and a spokesperson 15%
    • Demonstrated commitment to continued innovation in the industry 15%

    Best Achievement in Sustainability

    This Award recognises an outstanding achievement in sustainability at an event by an event owner, manager or supplier.

    Note:
    This category follows the definition and model outlined by the United Nations NGO Committee on Sustainable Development, namely:

    • Sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs
    • Sustainable development is a balance of three dimensions:
    • Environmental Protection
    • Economic Growth
    • Social Development

    Who can enter:

    1. Entries may be submitted by the Event Owner or by a product or service provider with permission from the Event Owner and/or the Event Manager
    2. The event at which the achievement was performed must have taken place in Australia between July 1, 2009 and June 30, 2010

     

    Criteria:

    • The degree to which the achievement enhances the environmental, economic and social outcomes of the event 50%
    • The degree to which the achievement makes a positive contribution to the overall quality of the event experience for customer/stakeholder groups 25%
    • The degree of innovation displayed by the achievement 25%

    Lifetime Achievement Award

    This Award recognises an individual that has made a remarkable contribution to the Australian Events Industry.

    Who can enter:

    1. Entries may be submitted by anybody on behalf of an Australian Citizen who has made an outstanding contribution to the Australian Events Industry over an extended period of time.
    2. The nominated person must give their consent to the nomination

     

    Criteria:

    • Degree to which the nominee has made a remarkable contribution that has enduring benefit to the Australian events industry 100%

    Event Manager of the Year

    This Award recognises an individual or business that has delivered an event or events in Australia at a consistently exceptional level over a 12 month period.

    Who can enter:

    • Entries may be submitted by anybody on behalf of an Australian Citizen or business registered in Australia in relation to a nominated event or events that took place in Australia between July 1, 2009 and June 30, 2010

     

    Criteria:

    • High quality events delivered that meet the needs of stakeholders 30%
    • Consistent achievement of event objectives through best practice (for example in relation to organisational leadership, encouragement of team work, financial management, project planning, etc) 30%
    • Outstanding innovation in the delivery of events 20%
    • Suitability as an ambassador for the industry as an example and a spokesperson 20%

    The Australian Event of the Year

    This Award is chosen from the winners of the Event of the Year Category Awards and recognises an event that excels against the criteria of its Award category and demonstrates an outstanding example of best practice in the events industry.

    Who can enter:

    1. This category is not open to direct entries. The finalists in this category will consist of the winners of each of the Event of the Year Award categories

     

    Criteria:

    • Degree to which the event excels against the criteria of its Award category and demonstrates an outstanding example of best practice in the events industry 100%
